Oh boy, websites

So I really want to start getting my website put together and up. I figure the sooner I do it, the more likely I'll get more viewers sooner, right? My problem? Well, it's the slight problem that I don't know any html or css or anything remotely related to getting a website up. I know design, and that's about it (sadly, one of my downfalls when applying to design jobs right now - I'm pretty much expected to know at least basic code).

So does anyone know of a good website where I could snag the code from and tweak? I am starting to know how to identify different aspects of code, so as long as I can have a template, I'm good to go. I'm going to be on the hunt for websites similar in look to mine...this might take awhile.

  1. i know something even better.

    take a look at ""

as a quick (and super-cheap) final project before i graduated, i wanted at least a home page of a website set up to print on my business cards.

my hub set me up an account on "1&1" to host the site, and he showed me flypaper (it was still in beta) and set me loose. i got the front page sort-of done, and never actually published any pages past the homepage, but... it's as easy as putting together a powerpoint presentation, and it's as customizable as you want it to be. and it's as fancy as flash! (right now mine's taking about a decade to load the homepage, but it's there, i swear.)

the best thing about this stuff is, you don't have to know a thing about programming. just make it look how you want, and publish it!
